Hi everyone
So this month we have posted the track "Auto-care". It is from our new record "Twelve Small Steps, One Giant Disappointment". What is exceptional and I think notable about the track is the fact that Derrick composed much of the music and all of the lyrics before his death. I received the words from Derrick..s mom, Trish. It was a particular entry from one of his journals she found. Trish hoped we could find some use for them on our record. I had written lyrics for all but one of the songs and when I received "Auto-care" I knew it was an opportunity to further pay tribute to Derrick and his great potential.

Here is what I consider to be the back-story. Some years ago I was going to sell an old beat-up Pick-up truck. Rather than bothering with the hassle, that would only yield a few bucks, I gave the car to Derrick. I imagine the truck was the vehicle for some rough and rowdy days in the last years of Derrick's life. I think it was an indirect subject for the words, the car and it..s upkeep clearly a metaphor for the struggles Derrick encountered at that time of his life. The Truck was in bad shape and I..m sure it needed constant maintenance to keep running.

Oddly enough it worked perfectly with the melody I had in mind. For as long as I knew Derrick he would periodically and privately log his thoughts and over the years I was fortunate enough to have read some of his work. He was truly gifted as a writer.

I just thought this insight might interest some of you. I have included the lyrics below. I hope you enjoy the song.

This Vehicle is breaking down
Someday I'll stop
Can't get these tired wheels to go round
Back in the shop
A month of treatment for the wear and tear
Then fall apart
Cross the state border disappear
Back in the shop again

Admitted, acquitted
Admitted, acquitted
Back on the road neither here nor there

Vessel devoid of ambition
Sputter and crawl
Propelled by faulty transmission
Likely to stall

Admitted, acquitted
Admitted, acquitted
Back on the road as the sun goes down

This Vehicle is breaking down
Someday I'll stop
Propelled by faulty transmission
Back in the shop
Non-stop

No breaks for my mistakes
Admitted, acquitted
Admitted, acquitted
Back on the road as the sun goes down
